If you have ever received multiple roofing estimates you probably know the cost can vary from contractor to contractor, sometimes by thousands of dollars to install basically the same product. Many roofers quote roofs in different ways, some quote by time/material, some quote by square and some do both while throwing in added costs.
In order to decipher these quotes you should do your research and make sure you are getting the best price for what they are actually selling you. An example could be - are the quotes apples to apples? Are all of the contractors including new drip edge? 15lb-30lb felt paper or synthetic felt paper? Dimensional shingles or 3 tab shingles? Ice and water shield on the eaves and in the valleys, around chimneys? Is one contractor installing ridge vent and baffles, while another is installing can vents or possibly even reusing the old vents.. Is the contractor pulling a permit? How will they dispose of the old roof?
There are many ways to cut corners on the cost of a roof. Considering your roof plays the biggest part in protecting your home from the weather you should know what you are buying and why.
At A1 Gutter Pro we give a detailed quote, and do not cut corners on our estimates or on our installation. If you like the idea of doing things the cheapest way possible we can work that out too, but in most cases the cheapest way is not the most practical way or best way, especially on a roof.
How to Save Money on your new Roof
There is no easy way to save money on your roof. When you try going cheap on labor you get leaks and fouled installation. When you try and save the old drip edge and ventilation it still costs money in labor. So, If you would like to save some money, have the knowledge and the manpower to remove the old shingles we can cut the cost of your new roof down considerably. If you are going to attempt to replace the roof yourself this is usually the one part of roofing that can be done without much experience.
