Sometimes when your gutters are leaking the problem may be that the gutters are simply clogged. Cleaning out the gutters and downspouts will fix this problem. Adding some type of gutter guard may be a long term solution with little maintenance.

Many gutters are made of steel wich rusts over time, most steel gutters have seams, they can be repaired in sections but it is not recommended to tie into an aluminum gutter with a steel gutter. If you have a residential home with rusted steel gutters it may be time for replacement. If the steel gutter is a larger commercial application on a building the repairs may be more cost effective than complete replacement - depending on the condition of the existing gutters.. There could be many factors involved when repairing a commercial steel gutter. Most other gutter contractors have no knowledge in commercial roofing, steel high back gutters, box gutters, and custom fabricated gutters & downspouts.

Copper gutters are rare to find on most homes and businesses, also they are very expensive. When they develop a leak or get damaged it is important to fix them properly. Most gutter contractors we have seen use a special caulking for copper, but rarely they ever sand or clean the joints, and for most of them soldering the joints is out of the question due to their inexperience with soldering. For a professional copper gutter repair it is important to consider soldering as it will last the life of the gutters.

When a downspout is leaking there are some common problems that may be happening. The downspout may be damaged, it is common that the seam on the back may be split, or the elbows may not be in the correct order for water to flow inside the pipe. Some downspouts go into underground drains which may be clogged as well.
