When should you consider a pop up drain system?
- Your soil doesn't drain well.
- You have grading issues that impede the flow of water away from the house.
- Your gutter design drains too much water into one area.
- You need to drain water under an obstacle such as a sidewalk or landscaping.
Pop up drains are a great solution to drain water away from your house. They are virtually invisible since they are underground. You wont be tripping over them or hitting them with a lawn mower like other extensions.
Other considerations
A pop up drain can cost over 10x more than a typical aluminum or plastic downspout extension. The ground where the drain is going must be dug up and graded so the underground piping has a slope. Also the pipe should have a good base underneath it such as pea gravel. All of this can be labor intensive which explains the price difference.
